Risk/Middle Office Analyst
Selby Jennings is partnered with the Chief Risk Officer of a rapidly growing oil & gas trading firm that specializes in physical and financial commodities. The CRO is looking for a Risk Analyst with 3+ years that will play a vital part of the Risk team, ensuring accuracy & integrity of PnL, position reporting, and trade data for their trading desks. Additionally, this role reports directly into the CRO giving you the opportunity to learn from a well-established leader in the industry.
Responsibilities
* Reconcile front-office positions with back-office systems and teams.
* Resolve trade booking discrepancies, working with traders, trading assistants, and operations to correct pricing, volumes, contract details, and costs.
* Review and validate forward curves and pricing inputs for MTM, ensuring consistency with market data.
* Monitor curve construction for seasonal commodities, flagging anomalies for adjustment.
* Support pricing model updates, incorporating new trades or market shifts.
* Utilize Excel/VBA, Python or SQL to automate P&L reporting, positions reconciliations and data validation tasks, reducing manual effort and errors.
* Develop tools to streamline trade data analysis, such as reconciling positions or tracking patterns.
* Assist in ETRM enhancements, ensuring data accuracy during migrations or upgrades.
* Ensure trading activities align with Internal policies and regulatory standards.
* Conduct periodic checks on books, inputs, and P&L processes, maintaining audit-ready documentation.
* Serve as a key contact between traders, finance, and support teams, resolving P&L or position disputes.
Requirements
* 3-7 years' experience in product control, middle office, or financial operations withing energy trading, commodities or related field.
* Hands on experience with P&L reconciliation, position management, and trade lifecycle processes.
* Advanced technical proficiency in at least one area; Python (data manipulation, automation scripts), Excel/VBA (macros, pivot tables), and SQL (queries).
* Experience with with trading systems / ETRMs is highly desirable.
* Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
* Professional certifications are a plus, but not required.
* Solid Understanding of energy markets, including crude oil and refined products, and forward dynamics.
* Familiarity with physical trading operations, including delivery schedules and contract maturities.
* Knowledge of pricing curves, MTM valuation, and trade reconciliation processes.
* Strong attention to detail, with a proactive attitude.
* Clear and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven trading environment.
