Risk Analyst - Hedge Fund

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail‑oriented Risk Analyst to join our investment risk team in a hedge fund environment. This position will be responsible for monitoring portfolio risks, conducting in‑depth analyses of strategy exposures, validating historical track records, and supporting risk oversight processes that ensure robust risk management across the firm.


Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio & Market Risk Monitoring

  • Monitor daily portfolio risk metrics including VaR, stress tests, scenario analyses, liquidity risk, and exposure limits.
  • Analyze factor exposures, concentration risks, drawdowns, and correlations across asset classes and strategies.
  • Identify abnormal risk signals, deviations from expected behavior, and emerging risks.

2. Internal Risk Management & Reporting

  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly risk reports for portfolio managers, senior management, and investment committees.
  • Maintain and enhance internal risk dashboards, alerts, and analytics tools.
  • Ensure risk policies are adhered to; highlight breaches and propose actions when needed.

3. Historical Track Record & Performance Analysis

  • Analyze historical performance of portfolios, strategies, and PMs, including attribution, volatility, Sharpe ratio, and return drivers.
  • Back‑test strategies and independently verify historical track records to support investor reporting and due diligence.
  • Identify trends in performance consistency, regime sensitivity, and factor exposures.

4. Data, Systems & Process Improvements

  • Work with technology teams to enhance risk models, scenario libraries, and data quality.
  • Automate recurring analytical processes and develop new quantitative tools as needed.
  • Support onboarding of new strategies by assessing risk profile, historical behavior, and expected return distribution.

5. Collaboration with Investment & Operations Teams

  • Partner with PMs to understand investment theses, risk-taking behaviors, and hedging strategies.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Compliance to ensure data accuracy, position integrity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in risk review meetings and contribute insights to portfolio discussions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in risk management, portfolio analytics, quantitative research, or performance analysis (preferably buy-side).
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments including equities, derivatives, fixed income, FX, etc.
  • Solid grasp of risk modeling concepts: VaR, stress tests, factor models, scenario analysis, liquidity metrics.
  • Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with Python/R/SQL is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • prefer having previous experience in a hedge fund, multi-strategy platform, or asset management risk function.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, Barra, RiskMetrics, Axioma, or similar risk systems.
  • Progress toward CFA/FRM designation.
