About the Role

Our client, a leading commodities-focused trading firm, is looking to hire a Quantitative Researcher. This role is ideal for someone passionate about systematic research, alpha generation, and model development, who wants to work in a high-impact, intellectually stimulating environment.

You'll contribute directly to building and enhancing quantitative strategies, collaborating closely with senior researchers, traders, and technologists to push the boundaries of data-driven trading in global commodities markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct rigorous quantitative research to identify new alpha signals and improve existing models.
  • Develop and backtest systematic trading strategies across commodities (oil, gas, power, metals, agriculture, etc.).
  • Explore large, complex datasets; design and validate predictive features.
  • Build models using statistical, econometric, and machine-learning methods.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to bring research into production.
  • Continuously monitor and refine live strategies and model performance.
  • Contribute to research tooling, data quality improvements, and research best practices.

Essential Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in a QA/QR role within commodities.
  • Degree in a highly quantitative subject (Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).
  • Strong programming skills in Python (or similar).
  • Excellent understanding of statistics, time-series modelling, and data analysis.
  • Experience with backtesting frameworks and research pipelines.
  • Comfort working with large datasets and real‑world noisy data.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and high intellectual curiosity.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to systematic trading or strategy deployment.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with market microstructure or execution modelling.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing, distributed systems, or modern data stacks.
