Operations Associate/Manager - Long/Short Equity Fund
Role Overview
A well-established buy-side investment platform is seeking an Operations Associate/Manager to support a Long/Short Equity investment strategy, working directly with the Portfolio Manager (PM). This role is embedded within the investment team and acts as the primary operational gatekeeper, ensuring strong daily operational control while coordinating closely with an existing centralized operations function.
The position is ideal for a hands-on operations professional who enjoys close partnership with the front office and who can help enhance and strengthen existing operational processes. This is not a build-from-scratch role; rather, the focus is on elevating and optimizing a stable operating framework (moving from ~1 to ~1.5).
Key Responsibilities
Investment & Trade Operations Support

- Oversee the full trade lifecycle including trade capture, confirmation, settlement, and exception management
- Monitor and resolve post-trade issues in coordination with centralized operations teams
- Ensure accurate handling of corporate actions, cash movements, and position monitoring
Operational Oversight & Risk Control
- Serve as an operational proxy for the PM, proactively identifying risks, breaks, or control issues
- Review outputs and processes performed by centralized ops to ensure strategy-specific accuracy
- Support NAV-related reviews, valuation checks, and month-/year-end processes
- Maintain strong operational governance in line with internal controls and regulatory standards
Process Enhancement & Operational Improvements
- Identify inefficiencies or gaps in existing workflows and controls
- Drive incremental enhancements to operating processes, systems usage, and reporting
- Partner with internal stakeholders on system upgrades, automation initiatives, and workflow improvements
- Assist with documentation of processes, controls, and best practices
Stakeholder & Service Provider Management
- Work closely with the PM, traders, risk, compliance, finance, and centralized operations
- Liaise with external counterparties including brokers, prime brokers, custodians, and fund administrators
- Support audits, regulatory requests, and ad-hoc operational projects as required
Requirements
Experience
- 3-7 years of experience in buy-side operations, middle office, or fund operations
- Strong exposure to equities or long/short equity strategies preferred
