Investment Banking Managing Director | Aerospace & Defense
Selby Jennings is partnered with a bespoke investment banking boutique focused on aerospace & defense sell-side M&A. This group is comprised on sharp individuals with deep connections into the aerospace and defense industries.
Ideal candidates are current sell side focused current managing directors with experience in originating transactions in the middle market & generating $3-5MM a year. Additionally managing directors should be based in or be open to relocation to Los Angeles, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Origination & Coverage
Develop and expand relationships with senior executives across aerospace, defense, space, and government services companies.
Originate new sell‑side mandates by identifying strategic trends, consolidation themes, and capital markets dynamics relevant to A&D.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on valuation, strategic alternatives, and market positioning.
Deal Leadership & Execution
Lead end‑to‑end execution of sell‑side M&A transactions, including process design, buyer outreach, negotiation strategy, and diligence oversight.
Manage cross‑functional deal teams, ensuring seamless coordination across analysts, associates, VPs, legal advisors, and technical consultants.
Oversee preparation of marketing materials, financial analyses, management presentations, and data room content.
Sector Expertise & Thought Leadership
Maintain deep understanding of A&D subsectors: defense electronics, C4ISR, space systems, propulsion, avionics, unmanned systems, and government services.
Track regulatory and geopolitical developments affecting deal activity, including ITAR, CFIUS, export controls, and DoD budget priorities.
Publish insights, speak at industry conferences, and represent the firm as a leading voice in A&D M&A.
Team Leadership & Development
Mentor and develop junior bankers, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
Partner with other senior leaders to refine the group's strategic direction and growth priorities.
Uphold the firm's standards for risk management, compliance, and client confidentiality.
Qualifications:
12+ years of investment banking experience with a strong track record in sell‑side M&A, ideally within the A&D sector.
Established network of C‑suite and private equity relationships across aerospace, defense, and government services.
Demonstrated ability to originate and close complex transactions in regulated or sensitive industries.
Deep understanding of A&D market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and government procurement cycles.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Bachelor's degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
