Vice President - Special Situations/Restructuring Investment Banking
Location: Chicago/New York/Boston
We are partnering with a leading middle‑market investment bank to add a Vice President to its Special Situations/Restructuring IB group. This is an opportunity to join a well‑established and rapidly growing advisory team that is active across a wide range of complex, stressed, and distressed transactions, both in‑court and out‑of‑court.
The group is primarily company/debtor‑side, while also executing opportunistic creditor and equity-holder mandates. The team is known for strong deal flow, hands‑on senior leadership, and meaningful client exposure at the VP level.
The Role
As a Vice President, you will play a central role in transaction execution and client delivery while helping to support business development initiatives and mentor junior team members. The role provides exposure to distressed M&A, liability management exercises, private financings, recapitalizations, and restructuring engagements across industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day transaction execution under senior banker supervision across debtor‑ and creditor‑side mandates
- Build and review detailed financial models (three‑statement, liquidity, valuation, and scenario analyses)
- Analyze historical and projected financial information in complex or stressed situations
- Coordinate and manage business and financial due diligence efforts
- Prepare and review CIMs, management presentations, pitch books, and marketing materials
- Perform valuation work across a range of restructuring and distressed scenarios
- Maintain direct interaction with senior management teams, sponsors, legal advisors, and other counterparties
- Support business development through pitch preparation, idea generation, and client coverage efforts
- Assist in developing a long‑term personal business development plan
- Supervise, train, and mentor Analysts and Associates
Candidate Profile
- 4+ years of investment banking experience, including 3+ years focused on special situations, restructuring, or distressed advisory
- Proven execution experience on complex or distressed transactions
- Strong technical and analytical skills with advanced Excel modeling capability
- Experience managing workstreams and overseeing junior bankers
- Comfortable leading discussions with senior client executives and external advisors
- Solid foundation in accounting and applied financial theory
- Highly motivated, proactive, and able to perform in a fast‑paced, high‑responsibility environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (MBA preferred, not required)
- FINRA Series 79 and 63 (or willingness to obtain quickly, where required)
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Willingness to travel as needed

- Experience with Capital IQ and PitchBook
- Exposure to building long‑term client and advisor relationships within the restructuring ecosystem
