Head of Commodities Sales
Our client is seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial Head of Commodities Sales Trading to establish and lead a new commodities trading desk in Hong Kong. This is a greenfield opportunity with full autonomy to build the team and shape the business across a broad range of commodity products.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a new commodities sales trading department, covering a wide spectrum of products including oil & gas, metals & mining, and other commodity derivatives.
- Act as the senior point of contact for institutional clients, delivering trade ideas, market insights, and execution across global exchanges (SGX, CME, LME, ICE, etc.).
- Collaborate with internal teams across Hong Kong, Singapore, and London to ensure seamless execution and client coverage.
- Hire and manage junior talent to support desk build-out, with flexibility to structure the team based on business needs.
- Monitor global commodity markets and macroeconomic trends to provide actionable insights and engage clients in strategic discussions.
- Represent the firm at industry events and client meetings to enhance visibility and deepen relationships.
- Operate as a standalone department with full ownership of the commodities trading function.
- Report directly to the CEO.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commodity derivatives sales or trading, ideally with exposure to oil & gas, metals & mining, or broader cross-commodity markets.
- Strong institutional client network and ability to engage with hedge funds, corporates, and trading houses.
- Fluent Mandarin Chinese is essential due to client and internal communication requirements.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and build a team from the ground up.
- Strong technical understanding of options and derivatives strategies.
- Must be based in Hong Kong; visa sponsorship is available, but relocation assistance is not provided.
