Equity Sales Trader VP
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President, Equity Sales Trader to join our Equities business. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving client engagement, executing trades efficiently, and expanding the firm's institutional client franchise, with a focus on China A-shares, Hong Kong equities, and cross-border flows (Stock Connect).
This role requires strong market knowledge, execution expertise, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with global institutional investors.
Key Responsibilities
Client Coverage & Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with institutional clients (hedge funds, mutual funds, long-only asset managers, sovereign wealth funds).
- Act as the primary execution contact for clients trading Greater China equities.
- Partner closely with Sales, Research, and Capital Markets teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Proactively pitch trade ideas, market colour, and liquidity opportunities.
Trade Execution & Market Making
- Execute client orders across cash equities with a focus on best execution and risk management.
- Provide real-time market intelligence including liquidity conditions, flows, and price movements.
- Manage order flow across multiple trading channels including exchange and off-exchange liquidity.
- Support block trades, program trading, and high-touch execution strategies.
Market Intelligence & Product Expertise
- Maintain in-depth understanding of:
- China A-share market structure (including Stock Connect)
- Hong Kong equities
- Regional market trends and macro drivers
- Communicate actionable market colour and trading ideas to clients.
- Stay informed on regulatory developments impacting China and Hong Kong markets.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Institutional Sales teams to originate and execute client flow
- Research analysts to distribute insights
- Compliance & Risk teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
- Contribute to business strategy and revenue growth initiatives.
Revenue Generation
- Drive trading revenues through client activity and execution services.
- Identify opportunities to increase wallet share with existing clients.
- Support onboarding of new institutional accounts.
Requirements
Experience
- 7-12+ years of experience in equity sales trading or execution trading.
- Strong experience covering China/Hong Kong equity markets.
- Proven track record of building institutional client relationships and generating revenues.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of market microstructure and execution strategies.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced trading floor environment.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Fluency in Mandarin and English (required for client and internal communication).
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with trading platforms and OMS/EMS systems.
- Experience with algorithmic trading tools and electronic execution is preferred.
- Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar market data systems proficiency.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
Regulatory Requirements
- Relevant licenses required by jurisdiction (e.g., HK SFC Type 1 & 4 licenses).
- Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks across Asia markets.
