Team & Build-Out
- Commodity focused options desk is a relatively new initiative; firm has recently committed capital and resources to scale the platform
- With 3 flagship hires made from direct competitors over the past 6 months, the firm has made several key hires to establish the function.
- Team operates in a semi-systematic framework, combining discretionary trading with data-driven research
The Opportunity
- First dedicated analyst hire within the commodity options research function
- Highly visible role working directly with senior traders and PMs
- Opportunity to play a foundational role in building out modeling frameworks, datasets, and research infrastructure
- Direct impact on trading strategies and P&L generation
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short- and long-term supply/demand models, particularly across natural gas markets
- Build and enhance weather-driven and fundamental datasets to support trading decisions
- Conduct deep data analysis, including:
- Time series tracking of market developments and structural trends
- Large dataset processing and interpretation
- Model pricing dynamics including:
- Flat price forecasts
- Spread relationships across the curve
- Partner closely with trading teams to:
- Translate fundamental and quantitative insights into actionable, directional trading strategies
- Support idea generation and risk-taking decisions
- Contribute to the build-out of scalable research tools, including data scraping and pipeline development
Candidate Profile
- Background in Natural Gas or Weather Analytics preferred
- Experience building fundamental or data-driven supply/demand models
- Strong data skills, including experience scraping and working with large datasets
- Proficiency in Python or R is required
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, trading-oriented environment with direct exposure to risk
