Head of Equity Risk | Based in Asia
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Head of Equity Risk to lead the equity risk function across our clients APAC operations. This role is pivotal in overseeing risk management for long/short equity strategies, while also contributing to broader multi-strategy risk oversight. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of risk professionals, partnering closely with investment teams, and ensuring robust risk frameworks are in place to support dynamic trading environments.
What does the role involve?
- Lead and manage the APAC equity risk team, providing mentorship, oversight, and strategic direction.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive risk frameworks tailored to long/short equity and macro strategies.
- Monitor and analyze portfolio exposures, factor risks, liquidity, leverage, and stress scenarios.
- Collaborate with portfolio managers and senior leadership to provide actionable risk insights and challenge investment theses where appropriate.
- Oversee daily risk reporting and escalation processes, ensuring timely and accurate communication of key risk metrics.
- Drive enhancements in risk systems, analytics, and infrastructure in partnership with technology and data teams.
- Represent the risk function in regional and global governance forums.
- Stay abreast of market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging risks across APAC.
What experience do you need?
- 10+ years of experience in equity risk management within a buyside or sellside institution.
- Deep understanding of long/short equity strategies, macro trading, and multi-asset risk.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiarity with risk models (e.g., Barra, Axioma), stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Proven leadership experience managing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in APAC markets and understanding of regional regulatory environments.
- Advanced degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field preferred.
