Operating globally, the company is active in the full energy value chain and recently has expanded into green energy initiatives, supporting the global energy transition. Its portfolio includes crude oil, gas, distillates, and new energy products, and it operates several subsidiaries focused on distribution, trading, and logistics.

Role Summary

As Legal Counsel, you will be the key legal advisor supporting the company's fast-paced and expanding energy trading operations. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you'll work closely with traders, senior management, and cross-functional teams to ensure legal compliance, manage risk, and enable strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary legal contact for trading and compliance matters.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts including SPAs, charterparties, joint ventures, and storage agreements.
  • Negotiate master trading agreements (EFETs, ISDAs, IETAs).
  • Advise on trading compliance (e.g., market abuse) and regulatory obligations (e.g., licensing, reporting).
  • Support dispute resolution and provide legal input across corporate, commercial, and regulatory areas.
  • Translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance for non-lawyers.
  • Collaborate with trading desks, operations, and other legal professionals across the group.

Your Profile

Education & Experience

  • Fully qualified German Lawyer in commodities law or energy trading.
  • Exposure to trading houses or secondments in the sector is a plus
  • Strong understanding of physical and financial energy products (e.g., gas, LNG, oil, carbon).
  • Proficiency in standard trading agreements (EFETs, ISDAs, oil GTCs).
  • Familiarity with shipping law and vessel chartering is an advantage.
  • Solid grounding in regulatory frameworks (REMIT, EMIR, MiFID II, MAR, competition law, sanctions).
