Director of Captives - EB
Position Summary:
My client is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Captives - Employee Benefits to lead the development, implementation, and management of captive insurance solutions focused on employee benefits. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert, advising clients on innovative risk financing strategies, optimizing benefit funding, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in captives, strong client advisory skills, and a passion for delivering value through alternative risk solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Lead the captive strategy for employee benefits, including feasibility studies, program design, and implementation for single-parent, group, and cell captives.Client Advisory:
Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing insights on captive structures, cost containment, and long-term funding strategies for health and welfare benefits.Program Management:
Oversee the ongoing management of captive programs, including financial performance, compliance, governance, and vendor coordination.Collaboration:
Work closely with internal teams (actuarial, legal, underwriting, finance, and client service) to deliver integrated captive solutions.Regulatory Oversight:
Ensure all captive programs comply with applicable federal, state, and international regulations, including DOL, IRS, and NAIC guidelines.Thought Leadership:
Represent my client at industry events, contribute to white papers, and stay ahead of trends in captive insurance and employee benefits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, JD, or similar) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in employee benefits, risk management, or insurance, with at least 5 years in captive insurance.
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, ACA, and other relevant regulations.
- Proven experience designing and managing employee benefit captives.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of underwriting, actuarial principles, and funding mechanisms.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship skills.
- Professional designations such as CEBS, ARM, or ACI (Associate in Captive Insurance) are a plus.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience working with public sector or large multinational clients.
- Familiarity with stop-loss, PBM, and wellness program integration within captives.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
