Position Summary:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join their Contract Surety team. This role is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, managing a portfolio of contract surety accounts, and developing strong agency relationships to drive profitable growth. The ideal candidate will possess deep industry knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a strategic mindset to assess risk and deliver tailored bonding solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of contract surety accounts, including bid, performance, and payment bonds.
- Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess the financial strength and creditworthiness of contractors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and clients to drive new business opportunities and retain existing accounts.
- Collaborate with internal teams including claims, legal, and risk control to ensure comprehensive risk assessment and service delivery.
- Negotiate terms and conditions of surety programs in alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and economic indicators to inform underwriting strategy.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior underwriters and support staff.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in contract surety underwriting or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction industry practices, financial analysis, and risk assessment.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive agency relationships.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
