Position Summary

The Senior Consultant, Employee Benefits is responsible for leading client engagements, delivering strategic benefits consulting solutions, and managing ongoing client relationships. This role partners with mid-size to large organizations to design, implement, and optimize health & welfare programs that drive cost efficiency, support workforce needs, and align with business objectives.

The Senior Consultant serves as a day-to-day strategic advisor while overseeing execution and mentoring junior team members.


Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Strategic Consulting

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for a portfolio of clients
  • Advise HR, finance, and executive stakeholders on benefits strategy, plan design, and cost management
  • Develop and execute multi-year health & welfare strategies
  • Provide benchmarking, trend analysis, and market insights

Program Design & Implementation

  • Lead the design and management of employee benefits programs, including:
    • Medical, dental, vision
    • Life and disability
    • Voluntary benefits
  • Guide clients on funding strategies (fully insured, self-funded, level-funded)
  • Oversee vendor selection processes, including RFPs, negotiations, and implementation

Financial & Analytical Support

  • Analyze claims experience, utilization data, and cost drivers
  • Develop financial projections and renewal strategies
  • Identify opportunities to optimize plan performance and reduce costs

Compliance & Governance

  • Advise clients on regulatory requirements (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.)
  • Partner with compliance specialists to ensure adherence to regulatory standards

Team Leadership & Project Management

  • Lead account teams to ensure high-quality deliverables and timelines
  • Mentor and develop analysts and associate consultants
  • Coordinate cross-functional resources (actuarial, underwriting, compliance)

Business Development Support

  • Support producers and senior leaders in new business pursuits
  • Participate in finalist presentations and proposal development
  • Identify opportunities for account expansion and additional services

Qualifications

Experience

  • 7-12+ years of experience in employee benefits consulting or brokerage
  • Proven experience managing client relationships independently
  • Strong understanding of health & welfare plan design and funding strategies

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Professional designations (CEBS, RHU, REBC) preferred
  • Life & Health insurance license required or ability to obtain

  • Knowledge of regional markets (e.g., California or Southeast)
