Job Title: Real-Time Power Trader
Location: Silver Spring, Maryland (Onsite)
Compensation: $90,000 - $100,000 base salary
Job Description:
A power market participant is seeking a Real-Time Power Trader to join its Energy Management team. This role is well suited for early-career candidates who want hands-on exposure to real-time operations and power markets. The position is part of a 24/7/365 operations center and involves monitoring, managing, and optimizing a portfolio of generation assets in regional ISO markets. The role requires strong decision-making skills, reliability, and the ability to work effectively under time-sensitive conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Work rotating 12-13 hour shifts as part of a real-time operations team.
- Assist day-ahead traders with asset optimization, including offer strategies, fuel considerations, and re-offer adjustments.
- Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, and startup/shutdown procedures.
- Communicate in real time with plant personnel and Independent System Operators.
- Take appropriate real-time actions in accordance with ISO and NERC operating procedures.
- Maintain understanding of ISO tariffs, manuals, and reliability requirements.
- Monitor real-time power and gas markets to identify risks and commercial opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with VBA is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High reliability, punctuality, and comfort working long rotating shifts.
- Ability to make decisions quickly under time constraints.
- Experience in PJM or ERCOT is a plus
