Head of Risk | Global Hedge fund | 2.5 Billion AUM
We are partnering with a highly active global trading business seeking a senior risk professional to join their Hong Kong leadership team.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced risk leader, or a strong Number Two ready for their first Head of Risk position, to help shape risk strategy across a fast-paced trading environment with international reach. The role sits close to senior management and provides significant influence over trading activity, business expansion, and firm-wide risk governance.
What you'll be doing
* Lead the development and oversight of the firm's market risk framework across global trading activities
* Advise executive leadership on risk appetite, capital deployment, and strategic growth initiatives
* Review and challenge new trading strategies, products, instruments, and market opportunities from a risk perspective
* Oversee risk limits, escalation processes, and governance standards across multiple jurisdictions
* Enhance risk methodologies including stress testing, scenario analysis, portfolio risk measurement, and quantitative risk analytics
* Build and develop a high-performing international risk team as the business continues to grow
* Partner closely with trading, investment, technology, and executive stakeholders on day-to-day and strategic matters
* Drive innovation within the risk function through technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions
* Act as the key risk representative with regulators and external stakeholders where required
* Present independent risk views and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees
What we're looking for
* Proven experience within a hedge fund, proprietary trading firm, investment manager, or active trading environment
* Strong understanding of market risk and trading activities across multiple asset classes
* Leadership experience within a risk function, or a senior deputy looking to step into a broader leadership mandate
* Strong technical knowledge of risk analytics, stress testing, and portfolio risk management techniques
* Ability to operate effectively in entrepreneurial, fast-moving trading businesses
* Experience interacting with regulators and senior stakeholders across international markets is advantageous
* CFA, FRM, PRM, or similar qualifications are viewed favourably
* Fluency in English is essential. Cantonese and/or Mandarin would be beneficial
