Head of Market Data - Prop Trading Firm
Our client, a leading multi‑strategy proprietary trading firm, is looking for a Head of Market Data to shape, lead, and optimise their global market data function. Operating across discretionary trading, options market making, and systematic investment strategies, the firm is known for its deep commitment to technology, automation, and data‑driven decision‑making. They continue to invest heavily in advanced infrastructure and analytical tools to maintain a competitive edge.
In this role, you will own the full market data strategy, working closely with senior stakeholders across trading, technology, operations, legal, and compliance. The position reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and operates within a closely integrated structure alongside engineering teams responsible for data delivery and technical implementation. You will oversee all commercial, strategic, and governance aspects of the market data lifecycle.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in market data policy, licensing, or vendor management within a trading firm, exchange, vendor, consultancy, or related environment.
- Proven success negotiating complex licensing agreements with major data providers (e.g., Bloomberg, LSE/Refinitiv, ICE, CME).
- Strong understanding of global market data policies, exchange rules, pricing models, and commercial frameworks.
- Experience improving or building a market data function, including strategy creation and process optimisation.
- Solid knowledge in at least one of the following: IT infrastructure, financial products (equities, futures, options), exchange structures, regulatory frameworks, or legal contract review.
Responsibilities
- Own and develop the firm's market data strategy, including sourcing, budgeting, vendor diversification, and alignment with business growth.
- Lead commercial negotiations and manage relationships with global exchanges, major vendors, and alternative data providers.
- Optimise internal market data processes, governance frameworks, workflows, reporting, and inventory tools.
- Ensure full compliance with licensing rules, regulatory obligations, contractual terms, and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders across trading, technology, legal, compliance, and finance while serving as the firm's subject matter expert on all market data matters.
