Head of Credit Sales
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Head of Credit Sales to lead and expand our institutional fixed income distribution platform in Hong Kong. This role will be responsible for driving revenue across credit products, building and managing a high-performing sales team, and strengthening relationships with global institutional investors.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in bridging offshore investor demand with onshore/offshore credit issuance, leveraging the firm's strong China franchise.
Key Responsibilities
Business Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the overall credit sales strategy across Greater China, Asia, and global markets
- Drive revenue growth across credit products including:
- Investment Grade (IG) & High Yield (HY) bonds
- USD / CNH / HKD denominated debt
- Structured credit and primary issuance distribution
- Identify market opportunities and position the firm competitively in offshore China credit
Client Coverage & Relationship Management
- Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with institutional clients including:
- Asset managers
- Hedge funds
- Banks
- Private banks
- Sovereign wealth funds
- Act as senior point of contact for key accounts and strategic clients
- Drive cross-selling across fixed income, derivatives, and structured products
Primary & Secondary Market Distribution
- Lead distribution efforts for primary bond issuance, working closely with DCM, syndicate, and trading teams
- Drive secondary market flow and liquidity in credit products
- Provide market color, trade ideas, and investment insights to clients
Team Management & Development
- Build, lead, and mentor a regional credit sales team
- Set performance targets, monitor KPIs, and drive a results-oriented culture
- Collaborate closely with trading, research, syndicate, and structuring teams
Internal Collaboration
- Partner with:
- Debt Capital Markets (DCM) on deal origination and execution
- Research for product insights and client engagement
- Trading desks for pricing and risk management
- Contribute to product development based on client demand
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements (SFC, HKMA, etc.)
- Uphold strong risk management and internal control standards
Requirements
Experience
- 10-15+ years of relevant experience in credit sales / fixed income sales within a bank or securities firm
- Proven track record in China credit markets and offshore bond distribution
- Experience managing teams and building sales platforms preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- Asian USD credit markets
- China offshore bonds (SOEs, LGFVs, developers, financials)
- Credit risk, pricing, and market dynamics
- Demonstrated ability to distribute both primary and secondary products
Client Network
- Established relationships with institutional investors across Asia and globally
- Ability to generate immediate client flow and revenue
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Commercial mindset with strong revenue ownership
- Excellent communication and client engagement skills
- Fluency in English and Mandarin required
