Our client is a lean PE firm headquartered in San Mateo, California. They specialize in B2B Software, Managed Solutions, Tech-Enabled Services, and Industrial Technology. Recently hit a valuation of around 1.1 billion. They invest in middle market Technology firms through Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Private Credit. Aim to partner with founders of established and growing companies that need additional capital and support to reach the next phase of their growth trajectory.

Position Overview
The Controller will lead the accounting function for the firm and will be responsible for the implementation of the firm wide financial strategy. They will be responsible for the financial reporting, tax, fund accounting, and financial operations of the firm. The person will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will manage a small team of accounting reports. This individual will also work closely with all members of our clients in-house legal, operations, investor relations, and investment teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, and valuation support for investment funds and affiliated management reporting.
  • Review portfolio valuation analyses and participate in governance processes related to fair value assessments and investment reporting.
  • Direct relationships with fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate completion of reporting and compliance obligations.
  • Monitor portfolio company financial information and coordinate data collection efforts to support valuation, reporting, and investor communications
  • Assist in the preparation and review of investor reports, capital activity notices, fundraising materials, and responses to investor due diligence requests.
  • Support treasury management, budgeting, operational controls, and continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.
  • Drive enhancements to accounting processes, policies, and technology solutions to improve efficiency, scalability, and control.
  • Coordinate investor and portfolio company audit confirmation processes and support automation initiatives designed to streamline recurring workflows.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of private markets fund accounting experience (PE, VC, private credit, or similar).
  • Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
  • Public accounting, audit, tax, or fund administration background strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting, financial reporting, partnership allocations, and capital transactions.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with accounting platforms, including QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and ownership.
