Overview

A leading Middle Eastern oil company is seeking an experienced Physical Gasoline Trader to join its commercial trading team in Dubai. The successful candidate will manage and optimize the company's gasoline trading portfolio, leveraging asset-backed positions, refinery exposure, and third-party trading opportunities. This role requires deep knowledge of regional and global gasoline markets, strong commercial instincts, and hands‑on experience with blending, refinery integration, and physical cargo execution.


Key Responsibilities

Trading & Commercial Optimization

  • Trade physical gasoline across the Middle East, Asia, and global markets, maximizing value from both asset-backed and third-party opportunities.
  • Optimize refinery production, blending components, octane management, specifications, and product qualities to enhance overall margin.
  • Identify and execute short-term and long-term trading opportunities based on market structure, arbitrage flows, and refinery economics.
  • Balance term supply commitments, spot trading exposure, and strategic inventory positions.
  • Develop and implement trading strategies aligned with the company's risk appetite and commercial objectives.

Blending, Refinery Interface & Asset-Backed Activities

  • Work closely with internal refining teams to align trading strategies with refinery runs, component availability, and blending economics.
  • Manage blending programs, including selecting blend components, ensuring spec compliance, and optimizing blend costs.
  • Collaborate with operations and refinery planners to coordinate feedstock, product offtake, and product slate optimization.
  • Support asset-backed arbitrage flows, including FOB/ CIF optimization, storage economics, and vessel scheduling.

Physical Cargo Execution & Logistics

  • Oversee end-to-end physical cargo activities including:
    • Cargo scheduling, laycan management, and terminal coordination
    • Chartering and freight optimization alongside the shipping team
    • In-depth oversight of product specifications, quality control, and blend performance
    • Demurrage management and operational risk mitigation
  • Maintain strong operational discipline to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant cargo execution.

Market Intelligence & Relationship Management

  • Maintain an active network of relationships with refiners, traders, blenders, distributors, and global supply counterparts.
  • Monitor gasoline fundamentals, crack spreads, blending economics, and regional arbitrage flows (AG-Asia, Europe-Middle East, US Gulf-AG, etc.).
  • Provide timely market insights to management, including short- and medium-term views.
  • Participate in industry forums, tenders, and commercial events representing the company.

Risk, Governance & Compliance

  • Manage trading exposures, pricing risks, and P&L in line with internal risk policies.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance, sanctions, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards.
  • Work closely with risk control, legal, and finance to maintain transparent trading practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7-12+ years of physical gasoline trading experience, ideally with exposure to both asset-backed and third-party trading.
  • Strong technical understanding of gasoline specifications, blending components, octane management, and quality optimization.
  • Experience working closely with refineries, including product offtake, blending programs, and production optimization.
  • Proven ability to generate consistent P&L in volatile gasoline markets.
  • Solid experience managing physical cargo flows, freight decisions, and operational execution.
  • Strong network of international gasoline market participants.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus.
