Employee Benefits Account Executive

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Account Executive to manage and provide strategic oversight for a portfolio of mid to large market employer clients. This individual will serve as a primary client relationship leader, partnering with Producers and internal service teams to develop and execute comprehensive benefits strategies tailored to each client's business objectives.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of employee benefits, experience working with complex and self-funded health plans, and the ability to advise HR and senior leadership on plan strategy, cost management, vendor performance, and the overall employee benefits landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic relationship contact for a portfolio of mid to large market employee benefits clients.
  • Develop strong relationships with HR, Benefits, Finance, and senior leadership stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and execution of annual benefits and renewal strategies, including plan design, funding, contribution strategy, and cost-management initiatives.
  • Oversee complex renewal and marketing processes, including carrier negotiations, proposal analysis, financial comparisons, and client recommendations.
  • Advise clients on fully insured and self-funded benefit programs, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
  • Partner with analytics and financial teams to evaluate claims experience, utilization, plan performance, and opportunities for cost containment.
  • Work with carriers, TPAs, PBMs, stop-loss providers, and other benefits vendors to evaluate performance and negotiate favorable outcomes.
  • Lead renewal presentations, strategy meetings, stewardship reviews, and other key client meetings.
  • Provide guidance around alternative funding strategies, plan design changes, vendor solutions, and emerging benefit trends.
  • Coordinate with compliance resources to help clients navigate applicable employee benefits regulations and requirements.
  • Oversee Account Managers and internal service teams to ensure client deliverables, implementations, renewals, and ongoing service needs are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify potential client risks and opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on client satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with Producers to identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and introduce additional capabilities and solutions.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of employee benefits brokerage, consulting, or account management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing mid to large market employer clients and complex benefits programs.
  • Strong understanding of self-funded health plans, stop-loss, alternative funding arrangements, and fully insured programs.
  • Experience analyzing claims, financial reporting, renewal projections, and plan performance.
  • Strong understanding of medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, and ancillary benefit programs.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic client conversations and communicate effectively with HR executives, finance leaders, and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Strong carrier and vendor negotiation skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, relationship management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to oversee multiple complex client relationships and competing priorities.
  • Appropriate New York insurance licensing preferred or ability to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and benefits/account management technology.

What Our Client Is Looking For

Our client is looking for an Account Executive who can operate as a strategic benefits advisor, not simply a relationship or service manager. The successful candidate will understand the financial and technical complexities of larger employer benefit programs while maintaining strong, trusted relationships with client decision-makers.

This individual should be comfortable leading the conversation, challenging clients to think differently when appropriate, identifying opportunities to control costs and improve plan performance, and coordinating internal and external resources to deliver a sophisticated benefits strategy.
