Director, Reinsurance Accounting

Our client, a long standing Life & Annuities insurance carrier, is seeking a strategic and technically strong Director of Reinsurance Accounting to lead accounting, reporting, and control activities related to its reinsurance programs. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader with deep insurance accounting expertise, strong cross-functional partnership skills, and a passion for building scalable processes and controls. The position offers high visibility across the organization and the opportunity to help shape an evolving function while supporting financial integrity and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead reinsurance accounting and financial reporting activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting packages, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Analyze and determine appropriate accounting treatment for complex and non-routine reinsurance transactions and agreements
  • Partner closely with teams across Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Legal, Operations, and Internal Audit
  • Drive process improvements, standardization, automation initiatives, and enhanced reporting transparency
  • Support audits, regulatory reporting, and other external reporting requirements
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Substantial progressive accounting experience, including insurance or reinsurance accounting
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting in an insurance environment
  • Experience leading teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • CPA or similar professional designation preferred
