Position Overview:
A leading financial services firm is seeking a Director to join its Portfolio Oversight team based in New York. This team plays a critical role in monitoring and managing the firm's investments across private credit and structured credit strategies. Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, the group is responsible for identifying credit trends, assessing risk, and collaborating with deal teams to implement proactive portfolio strategies.
The Director will lead the evaluation of portfolio exposures across multiple business lines. Responsibilities include conducting quarterly reviews, recommending risk ratings, analyzing financial and valuation data, monitoring covenant compliance, and preparing internal reporting materials. The role also involves close collaboration with origination and underwriting teams to assess company performance and support strategic portfolio initiatives such as data enhancement, reporting improvements, and policy development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and escalate underperforming assets to senior leadership.
- Analyze financials, industry trends, and business performance to assess credit health.
- Develop and maintain financial models and sensitivity analyses.
- Evaluate valuation methodologies and challenge assumptions where appropriate.
- Recommend changes to internal risk ratings, reserves, and accrual statuses.
- Review and assess amendment, waiver, and collateral modification requests.
- Prepare and present materials for internal credit and portfolio reviews.
- Maintain active dialogue with investment teams and portfolio company management.
- Contribute to strategic reporting and presentations for senior leadership.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to broader portfolio strategy discussions.
- Support initiatives related to data integrity, process optimization, and governance.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in credit underwriting, portfolio management, or credit review at a bank, investment firm, or direct lending platform.
- Strong background in various credit instruments including senior secured, mezzanine, asset-based, and structured credit.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (MBA, CFA) preferred.
- Formal credit training is a plus.
- Experience in growth, municipal, or distressed lending is advantageous.
- Deep understanding of credit documentation and legal frameworks.
- Advanced financial modeling, valuation, and accounting skills.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented.
