What work will the successful candidate do
- Learn how the firm would like people in Technology to get things done in terms of both tools to use and
- Spend time becoming familiar with the existing key databases, codebase and the functionality it provides
- Learn how existing solutions are deployed
- Meet the team members and start to build working relationship
- Pick up existing issues in the code repository and contribute in the form of merge-requests
- Participate in discussions, prototyping, implementation, testing and support of next generation database technologies
- Ensure databases are appropriately resourced with respect to storage, memory and CPU allocation for both performance and resilience
- Put in place and/or appropriately configure sufficient monitoring capabilities to ensure minimal downtime and metrics to help make informed decisions
- Provide routine operational maintenance including installations, upgrades, patches, Disaster Recovery tests, etc
- Troubleshoot live service issues to resolution with post-mortem writeups and root cause analysis
Requirements
- Adept at problem solving under high pressure
- At least 3 years industry experience, however exceptional candidates will be considered
- Expert at ANSI SQL, DDL, DML, data normalisation and transactions
- Prior experience with Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDb is desirable
- Prior experience with PostgreSQL is strongly desirable
- Solid understanding of profilers, query analysers, optimizers and different types of indexes together with their pros and cons
- Solid understanding of data warehousing architectures, including partitions and schema design
- Understanding of database security, including access control and auditing is important
- Experience with multi-region SQL Server replication, mirroring, log shipping and backups is nice to have
- Experience with multi-region MongoDB clusters, shards, GridFS and backups is good to have
- Experience with columnar database solutions such as DuckDB and ClickHouse is nice to have
- Experience with both self-hosted and cloud solutions is nice to have
