Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to help oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and process improvement initiatives. This individual will play a key role in supporting a growing insurance business, partnering cross-functionally with finance, legal, operations, and executive leadership. The position offers exposure to acquisitions, new entity formations, and strategic finance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting operations and support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
- Review financial reconciliations, journal entries, and accounting reports to ensure accuracy.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities.
- Coordinate external audits and assist with internal audit and control initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements.
- Support consolidation accounting and intercompany reporting activities.
- Lead accounting integration efforts related to acquisitions and newly established entities.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for operating entities.
- Oversee general ledger and related financial systems administration.
- Prepare and present financial reporting packages to senior leadership.
- Research accounting guidance and provide recommendations on technical accounting matters.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement enhanced internal controls.
- Manage and develop accounting staff through coaching, performance management, and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 7+ years of accounting and finance experience.
- Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of both GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Public accounting experience is highly desirable.
- Experience managing teams and leading projects.
- Strong communication, analytical, and presentation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, and organizational growth initiatives.
