Assistant Controller - Insurance
Requirements
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
- Assist in the preparation of NAIC and state regulatory filings.
- Analyze financial results and provide insights to senior management.
- Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory requirements and statutory reporting standards.
- Support internal and external audits, including coordination with auditors and examiners
- Assist in developing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the P&C insurance industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Experience with insurance regulatory filings and compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
