About the Opportunity
A leading global proprietary trading firm is seeking a Trading Application Support Engineer to join its Amsterdam office. This role sits at the intersection of technology, trading, and operations, supporting the systems that underpin real-time trading across global markets.
You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical trading applications and exchange connectivity, working closely with software engineers, traders, and infrastructure teams to ensure the reliability and performance of production systems. Responsibilities
- Monitor production trading applications and associated infrastructure using dashboards, monitoring, and alerting tools.
- Act as a primary point of contact for production incidents and application-related issues.
- Troubleshoot Linux-based trading systems, application failures, performance bottlenecks, and connectivity issues.
- Investigate exchange connectivity, market data, and order flow issues across global trading venues.
- Develop and maintain Python-based automation tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes.
- Perform root cause analysis for production incidents and drive permanent resolutions.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams on application deployments, configuration changes, and production releases.
- Analyze logs, metrics, and system behaviour to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Support business users and trading teams in a real-time environment where responsiveness and attention to detail are critical.
- Contribute to monitoring, alerting, and observability improvements across the trading technology stack.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Application Support, Production Support, Trading Support, Technical Operations, or a similar role.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience writing Python scripts for automation, tooling, or operational support.
- Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Experience working with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Kibana, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex production issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on reliability and operational excellence.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting trading systems, financial applications, payment platforms, or other real-time mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with FIX Protocol, exchange connectivity, market data feeds, or electronic trading systems.
- Experience with SQL and log analysis tools.
- Knowledge of incident management and production support best practices.
- Exposure to low-latency or high-performance technology environments.
