Valuation Actuary - Individual Life

Overview

A global reinsurance organization is seeking a Valuation Actuary to join its actuarial team in Toronto. This role sits within a cross‑regional valuation function supporting both U.S. and Canadian businesses, offering exposure to multiple product lines and regulatory frameworks.

This is a strong opportunity for a recently credentialed or near‑credentialed actuary to deepen experience in valuation, financial reporting, and capital management within a collaborative and internationally focused environment.

The Role

The Valuation Actuary will support the valuation and financial reporting of individual life, group, and health products across U.S. and Canadian portfolios. The role involves contributing to reserve analysis, financial projections, and reporting deliverables under a variety of accounting and regulatory regimes.

This individual will work closely with actuarial and cross‑functional teams across regions, helping ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment of reporting outputs while contributing to ongoing model and process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with financial reporting across US GAAP (including LDTI) and IFRS 17 frameworks
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements including US STAT, LICAT, and Solvency II
  • Develop and maintain actuarial models, tools, and reporting solutions to enhance both management and regulatory reporting
  • Analyze experience data to assess profitability, performance, and risk across individual life insurance business
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, reports, and presentations related to valuation outputs
  • Support the drafting of Appointed Actuary reports and capital adequacy testing exercises
  • Perform research and analysis to enhance valuation methodologies and improve accuracy of actuarial outputs
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency across actuarial models and reporting processes
  • Support model governance activities, including change management, control testing, and audit requests
  • Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends, providing insights and recommendations as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • ASA/ACIA designation (or near completion) with at least 2+ years of actuarial experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, US STAT, IFRS 17, and LICAT frameworks
  • Experience with actuarial modeling software, preferably GGY AXIS
  • Strong technical skills, including Excel, Access, and SQL
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python or R) and familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deliverables across reporting cycles
  • Self‑motivated with a proactive mindset and interest in process improvement
