Senior Data Sourcing Strategist
Our client, a leading global alternative investment manager, is looking for a Senior Data Strategist in London to shape the sourcing, evaluation and management of investment data supporting a quantitative Global Macro fund and broader investment teams. The role sits within Data Strategy and partners closely with Portfolio Managers, investment professionals, IT and Data Engineering to ensure systematic strategies have access to relevant, high-quality datasets. The position has been created to strengthen data acquisition, manage complex data initiatives and provide strategic guidance as the investment platform develops. It offers direct commercial impact through better-informed data decisions, efficient onboarding and commercially advantageous vendor partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Portfolio Managers, investment professionals, IT and Data Engineering to assess data requirements across Equities, FX, Rates, Fixed Income and Credit.
- Identify, evaluate and source market, reference, pricing, historical and alternative datasets for systematic investment strategies.
- Lead complex data projects, translating requirements into clear deliverables, milestones and actionable workstreams.
- Provide comparative analysis of vendors and negotiate commercially advantageous data agreements.
- Advise on data operations, including cost allocation, data cataloguing, inventory management and delivery infrastructure.
Requirements
- Approximately 6-10+ years' experience in Data Strategy, Market Data, Data Sourcing or a comparable financial-data role.
- Strong knowledge of investment and market data, with particular expertise in Equity datasets and Equity-based strategies.
- Proven understanding of how data is sourced, delivered and consumed within quantitative or systematic investment environments.
- Familiarity with APIs, FTP/SFTP, real-time feeds and cloud-based data platforms such as AWS or Snowflake.
- Strong stakeholder and vendor-management skills, including the ability to advise senior stakeholders and negotiate commercial agreements.
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of data strategy within a sophisticated investment environment, combining technical understanding, commercial judgement and close engagement with the people using data to make investment decisions.
For someone already performing well in market data or data sourcing, the attraction is the breadth of influence: direct exposure to investment professionals, responsibility for complex multi-asset data requirements and the ability to shape how a quantitative investment platform acquires and manages data.
