Quantitative Researcher - Power Markets

Role Overview

We are seeking a Quantitative Researcher to join a large, high‑performing semi‑systematic power trading pod, focused on short‑term alpha generation across global power markets. The role is highly research‑driven and closely integrated with trading, with clear ownership over the development, testing, and deployment of signals that directly impact P&L.

You will work on identifying and exploiting short‑horizon inefficiencies, combining quantitative techniques with a practical understanding of power market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and develop short‑term (intraday to multi‑day) alpha signals across power markets
  • Analyze market microstructure, liquidity, congestion, and auction behavior
  • Build, test, and validate predictive models for prices, spreads, and volatility
  • Integrate market, fundamental, and alternative datasets into systematic and semi‑systematic frameworks
  • Partner closely with PMs and traders to translate research into tradeable strategies
  • Monitor live performance, attribution, and drawdowns; refine models as regimes evolve
  • Apply rigorous statistical standards to ensure robustness and scalability of research

Required Qualifications

  • Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline (e.g. math, statistics, physics, engineering, CS)
  • 2-7+ years of experience in quantitative research or systematic trading, ideally linked to commodities
  • Solid understanding of power markets, or a proven ability to ramp quickly into complex market structures
  • Advanced Python skills and experience working with large, imperfect real‑world datasets
  • Strong foundation in statistics, time‑series analysis, and/or machine learning
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven trading environment with tight feedback loops
