Sector Data Analyst

Overview

This role sits within a highly collaborative investment team and focuses on transforming complex datasets into actionable insights that support fundamental equity research and investment decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with investment professionals, data engineers, and alternative data specialists to identify trends, test investment hypotheses, and enhance the research process through data-driven analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate data-driven insights and research ideas for the fundamental equity investment team.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and investment opportunities.
  • Build and maintain quantitative tools, models, screeners, dashboards, and analytical frameworks used by investment professionals.
  • Estimate and forecast key performance indicators (KPIs) for companies and sectors using structured and alternative data sources.
  • Design and execute data-driven studies to validate or challenge investment hypotheses.
  • Evaluate new and existing datasets for quality, coverage, predictive value, and investment relevance.
  • Partner with data engineering, data sourcing, and investment teams to improve research workflows and identify new analytical opportunities.
  • Develop custom analytical features and variables that can be integrated into fundamental valuation models.
  • Support investment teams through ad hoc research projects, sector analysis, and company-level investigations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong programming expertise with advanced Python and SQL skills.
  • Experience working with large datasets and applying data analysis techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to translate business or investment questions into structured analytical projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with alternative data research and analysis.
  • Exposure to fundamental equity research, investment analysis, or financial markets.
  • Familiarity with company financials, sector analysis, and investment research methodologies.
