「JP」Senior Manager - Legal, Compliance & Risk Control - Leading Data Centre & Real Estate Platform
My client is a leading and rapidly expanding real estate investment platform with a strong presence across the data centre, logistics and private fund management sectors. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Manager - Legal, Compliance & Risk Control to be based in Tokyo. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-growth platform and play a key role in strengthening the legal, compliance and governance framework supporting the business's continued expansion.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across Japan and overseas, supporting strategic transactions, fund activities and the company's fast-growing data centre platform while contributing to broader compliance, governance and risk management initiatives.
Responsibilities for this Senior Manager - Legal, Compliance & Risk Control role
* Provide legal support and strategic legal advice throughout the lifecycle of real estate investment and fund management activities, including data centre developments, logistics projects, capital raising and fund formation.
* Support complex transactions including land acquisitions, development projects, asset financing, leasing, asset management and investor-related matters.
* Review, draft, negotiate and execute a wide range of commercial agreements in both English and Japanese, working closely with external counsel and internal stakeholders.
* Advise business teams on legal, regulatory and governance matters while ensuring alignment with applicable laws and industry standards.
* Support regulatory filings and documentation relating to asset securitisation and investment management activities.
* Develop and enhance compliance frameworks, policies, procedures and training programmes in collaboration with regional and global stakeholders.
* Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and provide practical guidance to business functions.
* Support internal audit, governance, risk management and operational improvement initiatives.
* Participate in ESG, sustainability and cross-functional corporate projects, including environmental management programmes.
* Collaborate with Japan, regional and global teams on strategic business initiatives and complex legal matters.
Requirements for this Senior Manager - Legal, Compliance & Risk Control role
* Approximately 8 to 10+ years of legal, compliance, risk or related experience within real estate investment, real estate funds, private equity real estate, infrastructure, data centres or other complex investment platforms.
* Experience supporting sophisticated transactions such as data centre developments, project finance, real estate acquisitions, fund formation or capital raising activities.
* Strong understanding of legal, regulatory, governance and compliance matters within investment management or real estate-related businesses.
* Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements in both English and Japanese.
* Ability to operate independently while managing multiple stakeholders across business, legal and compliance functions.
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills with experience working in cross-functional and international environments.
* Business-level Japanese and English language capabilities, with confidence handling contracts and stakeholder communication in both languages.
