Director: XVA Trading & Capital Resource Management

The Role

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced Director to join its XVA and Capital Resource Management function in Asia.

This is a senior front-office role combining XVA trading and pricing expertise with a strong focus on capital, balance sheet and resource optimisation. The successful candidate will work across trading, structuring, risk, treasury, finance and technology to optimise the deployment of capital and resources across the APAC business.

The role will suit an experienced XVA professional who understands not only the pricing and risk management of valuation adjustments, but also how RWA, leverage balance sheet, initial margin, regulatory capital and funding considerations affect the economics and returns of client activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level expertise across XVA pricing, trading and risk management, supporting the assessment and pricing of new and existing derivatives transactions.
  • Drive capital and resource optimisation initiatives, with particular focus on RWA, leverage balance sheet (LBS) and initial margin (IM).
  • Develop and implement capital allocation and pricing frameworks to ensure capital consumption is appropriately reflected in new client transactions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve return on capital and overall balance-sheet efficiency across trading portfolios and client activity.
  • Develop and execute capital mitigation strategies, including structured credit solutions, bespoke risk offlays, hedging and other capital-efficient structures.
  • Partner with trading and structuring teams to assess the capital implications of complex transactions and identify opportunities to improve transaction economics.
  • Lead initiatives relating to portfolio optimisation, capital efficiency and resource allocation across APAC.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on evolving regulatory frameworks, particularly Basel IV and FRTB, and assess their implications for trading businesses and capital consumption.
  • Steer strategic infrastructure, analytics and technology projects supporting XVA pricing, capital management and resource optimisation.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders across Trading, Structuring, Risk, Treasury, Finance and Technology to implement strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the APAC business in discussions with regional and global senior management, providing clear recommendations around capital deployment, resource consumption and returns.
  • Provide leadership across cross-functional initiatives, influencing stakeholders and driving execution across complex organisational structures.

Candidate Profile

  • Significant experience within XVA trading, XVA pricing, resource management, counterparty risk or a closely related front-office function at an investment bank.
  • Strong understanding of XVA methodologies, ideally including areas such as CVA, FVA, MVA and KVA, alongside their impact on transaction economics.
  • Proven experience in capital and balance-sheet optimisation, particularly across:
    • RWA optimisation
    • Leverage balance sheet / leverage exposure
    • Initial margin optimisation
    • Capital allocation
    • Capital pricing
    • Return-on-capital optimisation
  • Strong understanding of derivatives and the ability to assess the XVA, funding, margin and capital implications of new client trades.
  • Experience developing or implementing capital mitigation and risk-transfer strategies, including structured or bespoke solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory capital frameworks, with Basel IV and FRTB experience highly desirable.
  • Experience leading strategic infrastructure, analytics or transformation initiatives within Global Markets.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to connect trading activity with capital consumption, balance-sheet usage and returns.
  • Comfortable engaging with and challenging senior management across APAC and globally.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence across Trading, Risk, Treasury, Finance and Technology.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex XVA and capital concepts into clear commercial recommendations.
