Global investment bank or leading financial institution with a strong EMEA footprint, providing FX liquidity and advisory services to institutional clients. The Madrid desk serves as a regional hub for Iberian and Southern European institutional coverage, partnering closely with global FX trading, structuring, and macro strategy teams across spot, forwards, swaps, and options.
Role Impact & Ownership
Responsible for originating and growing institutional FX revenue through trusted client relationships. Acts as primary FX advisor to clients, delivering market colour, trade ideas, and hedging solutions. Owns client coverage plans, contributes to desk strategy, and collaborates daily with trading, risk, credit, and compliance teams. Represents the firm externally with senior buy‑side stakeholders.
Core Domain Expertise
Strong understanding of FX markets, macroeconomic drivers, central bank policy, and FX‑rates interaction. Demonstrated experience covering institutional clients such as asset managers, hedge funds, insurers, or corporates. Proven ability to price, structure, and clearly articulate FX products, risks, and market dynamics.
Technical Skills (Clustered)
  • FX Products: Spot, forwards, NDFs, swaps, vanilla options
  • Markets Knowledge: G10 and EM FX, hedging strategies, cross‑asset correlations
  • Systems & Tools: Bloomberg, Refinitiv, FX pricing platforms, CRM systems
  • Risk & Controls: Trade booking, credit limits, regulatory and compliance awareness
Target Backgrounds & Adjacent Pathways
FX Sales professionals from investment banks, global markets divisions, or major non‑bank liquidity providers. Adjacent backgrounds include FX trading, rates sales with meaningful FX exposure, or buy‑side execution roles transitioning into sell‑side institutional coverage.
Soft Skills & Cross‑Functional Traits
Highly commercial, client‑focused, and confident communicator. Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills. Able to translate complex market dynamics into actionable insights. Comfortable operating in fast‑paced, collaborative trading floor environments.
Flexible Qualifications
Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferred. 6-12 years of relevant FX markets experience in an institutional sales or closely aligned role. Spanish and English required; additional European languages advantageous. Regulatory licences beneficial but not mandatory.
