We are partnering with a growing financial institution seeking an experienced Director of Credit Risk to play a pivotal leadership role within the Credit function. Reporting directly to the Head of Credit, this position will provide independent oversight across a diverse lending portfolio spanning Leveraged Finance, Structured Finance, Corporate Banking, and Financial Institutions.

This is a highly visible role, offering the opportunity to influence credit strategy, shape risk appetite, contribute to regulatory initiatives, and act as a trusted advisor to senior management and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex credit assessments across:

    • Leveraged Finance (sponsored and non-sponsored transactions)
    • Structured Finance, including Project and Infrastructure Finance
    • Corporate Lending
    • Financial Institutions, including banks, insurers, asset managers, and non-bank lenders
  • Provide independent challenge and approval of credit transactions, assessing:

    • Financial performance and projections
    • Transaction structures
    • Covenant packages
    • Security and collateral arrangements
  • Act as a senior decision-maker within the credit approval framework, exercising delegated credit authority.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, sector exposures, concentration risks, and emerging market developments.

  • Support the definition and ongoing calibration of the firm's credit risk appetite and portfolio strategy.

  • Serve as Deputy to the Head of Credit, representing the function at senior management and governance forums when required.

  • Present complex credit and portfolio risk matters to executive stakeholders and board-level audiences.

  • Contribute to key regulatory and strategic initiatives including stress testing, ICAAP, ILAAP, model governance, recovery and resolution planning, and regulatory engagement.

  • Review and provide oversight on legal documentation, including:

    • LMA loan documentation
    • Intercreditor agreements
    • ISDA/CSA agreements
    • GMRA and GMSLA frameworks
  • Support the continued enhancement of credit policies, governance frameworks, risk methodologies, and decision-making standards.

  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level Credit Risk professionals.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of Credit Risk experience within banking, financial services, private credit, or structured lending environments.

  • Extensive experience across:

    • Leveraged Finance
    • Structured Finance
    • Corporate Banking
    • Financial Institutions Credit Risk
  • Proven track record of holding Credit Approval Authority in a senior credit capacity.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Leveraged and structured finance transactions
    • LMA documentation and loan structuring
    • ISDA, CSA, GMRA, and GMSLA agreements
    • Basel regulatory frameworks and IFRS 9
    • Credit rating methodologies, PD/LGD/EAD concepts, and portfolio risk management
  • Experience interacting with regulators and supporting regulatory deliverables.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior business leaders constructively.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and managing high-performing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree, CFA, FRM, ACA, MBA, or equivalent professional qualification is advantageous.
