Data Engineer - L/S Equities Pod (Milan)
We are supporting a leading multi‑manager hedge fund with the hire of a Data Engineer to sit directly within a long/short equities pod, in Milan.
This is a research‑embedded role, focused on enabling faster, cleaner, and more scalable use of data across fundamental research and trading.
The Role
- Build and maintain Python‑based data pipelines supporting analyst and PM workflows.
- Ingest, clean, and structure large, messy, compliance‑approved datasets.
- Develop efficient data tooling for research and analysis (Pandas‑/SQL‑heavy).
- Partner closely with investment professionals to accelerate research velocity.
- Own day‑to‑day data operations in a fast‑paced pod environment.
- Gain exposure across data engineering and applied analytics, close to live decision‑making.
Experience & Skillset
- Strong Python skills with hands‑on experience building data pipelines.
- Solid experience using Pandas and SQL for large‑scale data manipulation (experience with performance‑oriented frameworks a plus).
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
- Background combining data engineering and applied data science / analytics.
- 1-4 years of relevant professional experience in a technical or quantitative setting.
- Strong academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar.
- Clear communicator; comfortable working directly with analysts and PMs.
- Able to operate with ownership and autonomy in a pod‑style setup.
