About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing consulting firm that advises public sector organizations on the design, financing, and management of employer-sponsored health and welfare programs. They are seeking a Senior Financial Consultant to support and lead financial consulting engagements for municipalities, counties, school districts, special districts, and other public sector entities.
This position is ideal for a consultative professional with strong analytical capabilities, experience working with self-funded and fully insured health plans, and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to clients. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing financial strategies, evaluating plan performance, and guiding clients through complex healthcare cost and funding decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a lead financial consultant on public sector health and welfare engagements.
- Analyze healthcare claims, utilization, trend data, and plan performance to develop client recommendations.
- Develop financial projections, budget forecasts, contribution models, and funding strategies for employer health plans.
- Evaluate self-funded and fully insured program alternatives, including reserve analyses and risk assessments.
- Support procurement and renewal activities by analyzing carrier and vendor proposals.
- Prepare and present findings, financial reports, and strategic recommendations to client leadership teams, boards, committees, and other stakeholders.
- Partner with actuaries, consultants, and analysts to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
- Assist clients with plan design evaluations, cost containment initiatives, and long-term benefits strategies.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted day-to-day contact.
- Contribute to business development efforts, proposal development, and practice growth initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Business, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in employee benefits consulting, healthcare finance, actuarial consulting, underwriting, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with public sector organizations such as municipalities, counties, school districts, or governmental entities strongly preferred, but not required.
- Strong understanding of health and welfare plans, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, disability, and voluntary benefits.
- Experience analyzing healthcare claims and financial data to develop strategic recommendations.
- Comfortable presenting financial results and recommendations to clients and executive stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial modeling tools.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with self-funded health plans and public sector healthcare funding arrangements.
- Exposure to actuarial concepts, healthcare underwriting, or reserve analyses.
- CEBS, MBA, CPA, ASA, FSA, or other relevant professional designation is a plus.
