My client, a leading provider of life, annuities, and property & casualty insurance is seeking a seasoned accounting leader to oversee general accounting and financial reporting functions. This organization is committed to innovation, operational excellence, and delivering best-in-class insurance solutions.

Position Overview

The Director of General Accounting & Reporting will lead the accounting team, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and statutory requirements. This role is pivotal in driving process improvements, implementing best practices, and supporting accurate and timely financial close and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all general accounting activities, including month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, statutory reporting, and internal control requirements.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and optimize accounting systems and tools (e.g., BlackLine, SAP, Oracle NetSuite) to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external auditors to support audits and regulatory filings.
  • Drive process automation and standardization initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on financial analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in financial reporting and general accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
  • Experience with reconciliation tools (e.g., BlackLine) and ERP systems (SAP preferred; Oracle NetSuite acceptable).
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex accounting processes.
  • Insurance industry experience preferred; exposure to life, annuities, or investments is a plus.
