Cost Accountant Qualifications:
-need 2+ years of cost accounting experience
-really good hands on application of cost accounting principles
-some manufacturing experience would be preferred
Cost Accountant Responsibilities:
1. Cost Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze manufacturing costs including labor, materials, and overhead.
- Prepare detailed cost reports and variance analyses.
- Monitor cost trends and identify areas for cost reduction.
2. Inventory Valuation
- Maintain accurate records of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Ensure proper valuation of inventory using methods like FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average.
- Reconcile physical inventory with accounting records.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts for manufacturing operations.
- Compare actual costs to budgeted costs and explain variances.
- Support strategic planning with cost projections.
4. Standard Cost Development
- Establish and update standard costs for products and processes.
- Work with production and engineering teams to ensure standards reflect current operations.
5. Cost Control & Efficiency
- Identify inefficiencies in production and suggest improvements.
- Monitor waste, scrap, and rework costs.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
6. Financial Compliance & Audits
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
- Support internal and external audits related to manufacturing costs.
7. ERP & Systems Management
- Use ERP systems (like SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) to track and report costs.
- Collaborate with IT and operations to improve cost tracking systems.
