Job Title: Financial Accountant


Position Summary

The Financial Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and accounting processes. This position is responsible for preparing financial statements, managing regulatory filings, supporting audits, and contributing to investment accounting and internal control frameworks. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive professional with a strong foundation in accounting principles and a commitment to excellence in financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of SEC filings, including 10-K, 10-Q, and other required disclosures, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and SOX testing, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting standards and assess their impact on financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Support investment accounting processes, including tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of investment portfolios.
  • Prepare detailed balance sheet and income statement analytics to support management decision-making.
  • Assist with regulatory filings for multiple legal entities, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Work closely with treasury and finance teams to prepare liquidity analyses and cash flow forecasts.
  • Document and maintain accounting policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, including system implementations, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities.
  • Research complex accounting issues and prepare technical accounting memos with supporting documentation.
  • Support ESG reporting initiatives by collaborating with legal and risk teams to gather and analyze relevant data.
  • Ensure timely and accurate intercompany transaction recording and reconciliation across global entities.
  • Maintain and improve internal control frameworks, including documentation and testing of key controls.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from senior management, providing financial insights and analysis as needed.
  • Utilize financial systems such as Workday and Workiva to streamline reporting and enhance data accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements, including control documentation, testing, and remediation activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent internationally recognized accounting designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat; experience with financial systems such as Workday and Workiva is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in preparing technical accounting memos and researching accounting standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global finance team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing regulatory and business environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience in investment accounting and financial modeling is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of insurance and MGA accounting principles is a plus.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with ESG reporting and sustainability metrics is an advantage.
