About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Middle Market Underwriter to join its growing commercial underwriting team in Seattle. This role is responsible for underwriting and managing a profitable book of middle market commercial business, developing strong agency relationships, and providing technical expertise and leadership within the underwriting organization.
The ideal candidate brings deep underwriting experience, strong business judgment, and a collaborative approach to partnering with agents and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal middle market commercial accounts, exercising sound judgment to evaluate risk, price coverage, and determine appropriate terms and conditions.
- Manage a complex and diversified book of business across multiple industries and coverage lines.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with appointed agents and brokers; serve as a trusted underwriting partner.
- Proactively identify growth opportunities and contribute to regional and organizational profitability goals.
- Negotiate pricing, coverage, and terms with agents while adhering to underwriting authority and guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with claims, loss control, actuarial, and underwriting leadership to drive successful outcomes.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced underwriters as needed.
- Stay current on market conditions, industry trends, and regulatory requirements impacting middle market business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong emphasis on middle market accounts.
- Proven ability to underwrite complex risks and make independent underwriting decisions.
- Strong knowledge of commercial lines coverages, forms, and pricing.
- Demonstrated success in agency relationship management and portfolio growth.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Professional designations (CPCU, ARM, AU) preferred but not required.
